A Note on Bagwell's Paradox and Forward Induction in Three Classic Games

چکیده

Stackelberg-like games show a situation where there is a clear advantage in moving …rst. In a thought provoking article, Bagwell (1995) shows that this advantage may not be robust against imperfect observations of the …rst move. We explore these ideas in the context of forward induction in three classic games, namely, the outside option game, the game of burning a dollar before the battle of the sexes and the beer-quiche game. Bertrand’s Paradox Revisited: More Lessons about that Ambiguous Word, Random

The Bertrand paradox question is: “Consider a unit-radius circle for which the length of a side of an inscribed equilateral triangle equals 3 . Determine the probability that the length of a ‘random’ chord of a unit-radius circle has length greater than 3 .” Bertrand derived three different ‘correct’ answers, the correctness depending on interpretation of the word, random. Here we employ geomet...

Perfect versus Imperfect Observability - An Experimental Test of Bagwell's Result

In a seminal paper Bagwell (1995) claims that the rst mover advantage, i.e. the strategic bene t of committing oneself to an action before others can do, vanishes completely if this action is only imperfectly observed by second movers. In our paper we report on an experimental test of this prediction. We implement three versions of a game similar to an example given by Bagwell, each time varyin...

Effect of Corrective Exercise vs Corrective Games on Upper Crossed Syndrome in Female Students

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the effect of corrective exercise and corrective games on upper crossed syndrome in female students. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study performed with the pretest-posttest method. The study sample consisted of 60 people who were selected purposely, based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and the rate of the disorder. In the study sample, the ...

Adaptive Speed Control of Three-Phase Induction Servo-drives Based on Feedback Linearization Theory

In this paper, based on feedback linearization control method and using a special PI (propotational integrator) regulator (IP) in combination with a feed-forward controller, a three-phase induction servo-drive is speed controlled. First, an observer is employed to estimate the rotor d and q axis flux components. Then, two input-output state variables are introduced to control the dynamics of to...
